Selecting the Right Plastic: Finesse Fishing

The right soft plastic for your finesse-fishing approach will make all the difference. Choose wisely!

For my final installment of selecting plastic baits, I’m going to discuss the options for when the bass need some finessing. These baits need to be compact and streamlined, as many times the bass have either seen every craw and creature known to man, or could be recovering from a nasty cold front.

When making pitches or casts to a weedline or scattered vegetation, a compact worm is needed to fall through the cover and to coax tight-lipped bass into biting. The Zoom Fluke Stick is a soft stick bait with the forked tail. This combo provides bass anglers with an option when the bite gets tough. I like to rig this bait with a 1/8- or 3/16-ounce tungsten weight on a 3/0 Lazer TroKar extra wide gap hook.
